Planners have given the go-ahead for Newport's city centre to be redeveloped into a "modern shopping complex".

Developers, Queensberry Real Estate, submitted proposals to develop the 36,230 sqm of retail space last December.

Now that plans have been approved the developers will go on to demolish all existing buildings in the John Frost Square area and create in their place, shops, a six-screen cinema, restaurants, a new bus station and car parking.

  • A department store

  • Five major store units

  • A multiplex cinema

  • 30 new shop units

  • Seven family restaurants

  • A convenience food store

  • A 400 space car park

  • A new bus station

Developers say the new shopping complex is due to open in Spring 2015.
