Northern Ireland's momentous win over Ukraine was tinged with sadness with the news that a fan had died, watching his team play, in Lyon.
The Irish Football Association put out a statement expressing their deep sadness at learning of the sudden death of the fan at this evening’s game at Stade de Lyon.
IFA Chief Executive Patrick Nelson said: “The fan passed away as he was watching the game in the stadium. This puts any result of a football match into perspective.
“The thoughts of the board, management, players and staff are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis also extended his sympathies to the family of the man who died, as well as to the friends and family of Darren Rodgers who died on Monday.
