Rory Gallagher accuses Jarlath Burns of intervening in potential appointment to Naas coaching role
Rory Gallagher has issued a statement accusing GAA president Jarlath Burns of intervening in his potential appointment to Naas GAA.
In the statement, Mr Gallagher said Mr Burns' actions were 'unprecedented and 'misguided' and threatened legal action if they were not retracted. It was previously reported that Mr Gallagher was in line for a coaching role at Naas in Kildare. On Monday, Naas confirmed he would not be joining the club.
Rory Gallagher is a former GAA manager for Derry senior Gaelic football team.
In 2023, he faced allegations of domestic abuse which he 'categorically 'denies. The claims were made by his estranged wife, Nicola Gallagher.
Rory Gallagher stepped back from the Derry role at the time before permanently withdrawing from the role.
On Thursday January 9, Rory Gallagher issued a statement in which he has accused the GAA president Jarlath Burns of intervening in his potential appointment to Naas.
He said Mr Burns actions were 'unprecedented and 'misguided' and threatened legal action if they were not retracted. In the statement he claims there was an email sent to Naas by Mr Burns on January 5 which he described as a ''direct approach to Naas GAA'' in an effort, he claims, to ''sabotage his potential appointment.''He said on Thursday: ''I have engaged with every procedure available to me. The PPS have issued two separate decisions finding that I have no case to answer.
He added that he had ''engaged with the GAA’s own procedures which set aside his disbarment''.Rory Gallagher is asking that Jarlath Burns' action is formally withdrawn and the contents of the correspondence is retracted. Without that said he would ''have no other alternative but to take legal action to cure what he described as ''irreparable damage done to me and my family in my ability to continue to work as a manger in the years ahead.''In response the GAA issued a statement which said: "The GAA acknowledges receipt of queries that have been put to us from media organisations in relation to coaching positions with the Naas senior football team. We have no comment to make at this time."
