Tributes paid to Northern Ireland boy who died in tragic pool incident in Spain
Tributes have been paid to a young boy from Northern Ireland who died in a tragic pool incident at a hotel on the Spanish island of Majorca.
Six-year-old Corey Aughey died while on holiday with his family in the town of Sa Coma in the east of the island on Sunday.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics who reportedly carried out CPR for nearly half an hour. He was later taken to hospital where he died.
Since confirming his death, people have been paying tribute to the boy on social media, including his sister, Darci.
In a tribute on Facebook, his older sibling wrote, "God only takes the best and Corey you were better than the best, you were far too good for this world you made me the proudest big sister to see this earth. It’s crazy how a couple seconds can change your life forever and our lives will never be the same."On Twitter, Thomas Mather wrote, "With the Angels I'll be singing, Up in heaven up above" Rest In Peace Wee Bear."
Meanwhile on Facebook, Maxine Mary McCullough said the family wanted to let people know "king Corey has gained his wings".
She said the family were comforted by the support.
"We want to thank you from the bottom off our hearts for all your kind donations, now we have to concentrate on getting him home. Please keep praying for the family to get the strength to get through the next couple off weeks."
The 45th Belfast Scout group also paid tribute.
"Corey will be fondly remembered by his Beaver Leaders as being fun loving, always smiling and full of enthusiasm. We will miss him so much," a post said.
The UK Foreign Office said it was in contact with the family. A fundraising page set up for the little boy while he was in hospital has raised thousands.
