One coronavirus-related death in NI in last 24 hours
One person who tested positive for coronavirus in Northern Ireland has sadly died in the last 24-hour reporting period.
According to the Department of Health, the death toll now stands at 546 – however, the exact figure will be significantly higher when deaths in all community settings are accounted for.
Another 580 people have been tested for Covid-19 and none of them returned positive results.
UK-wide, there have now been more than 54,000 deaths involving Covid-19, according to the Office for National Statistics.
It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson has just announced the reopening of the hospitality industry in England from 4 July.
He also announced that the two metre rule will become “one metre plus”.
It means the two metre rule should be followed where possible, but where it cannot be, people should stay one metre apart and mitigate the risk of infection - - for example, one metre plus a face mask on public transport.
The easing of restrictions aims to help people get back to work and businesses and the wider economy to recover.
However, the guidance in Northern Ireland remains the same - the two metre rule will continue for the time being.
