Giants blaze to back-to-back wins over Coventry

The Belfast Giants have continued their return to winning form with back-to-back victories over the Coventry Blaze, home and away.

Adam Keefe’s side ran out the 4-1 winners when they hosted Coventry at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Saturday night.

Goals from Curtis Hamilton, Brian Ward, Ben Lake and Jordan Smotherman, plus good work from netminder Shane Owen, helped the home side take the win.

The team then travelled to Coventry to face the Blaze again on Sunday, only to come away with the 6-3 win.

Defenceman Kevin Raine, fresh from claiming a cracking opening goal for the Giants in their mid-week away win over the Fife Flyers, bagged two more goals for his side in Coventry.

Lake and Smotherman were also back on the scoresheet for the Giants, and were joined by Paul Swindlehurst and Patrick Mullen.

Having struggled in previous weeks to actually get the puck in the back of the net, despite outshooting their opponents, having seven different scorers on the board will be welcome news.

The Giants are next in action in back-to-back away clashes with the Nottingham Panthers.

They then return to Belfast for their only remaining home game this month – taking on Dundee Stars on Saturday 16 September.
