Crowds turn out for champion Rea’s homecoming

Northern Ireland’s race ace Jonathan Rea has enjoyed a jubilant homecoming after securing his historic fifth World Superbike title in a row.

The unprecedented achievement comes as the Co Antrim man shows no sign of letting up in his domination of the sport.

After touching down at the airport on Wednesday, Rea told UTV he had contemplated retirement, but that he couldn’t see it right now as he was just “having fun”.

The modest star added that he didn’t think his accomplishments would ever sink in.

“It certainly puts it into perspective when you land back to so many people,” the Kawasaki rider said.

“I’m a bit stuck for words …

“I thought it was going to be low-key this year, but … it’s quite a big deal.”
