Teens suffer leg injuries in paramilitary-style assault
Two teenagers have suffered leg injuries following a paramilitary-style assault in Londonderry.
Police said the boys, aged 16 and 17, were attacked in a field in the Iniscarn Road area by a group of masked men on Thursday evening.
It is believed a crowbar was used.
Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment on leg injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police condemned the incident and said they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding what happened.
“Nothing gives these people the right to violate the human rights of people and their actions should be condemned by all,” a spokesperson said.
“Those who are involved in paramilitary style attacks do not represent the interests of any community nor contribute anything to it.
“They do it to try and exert influence or gain control in communities.
“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Iniscarn Road area between 10pm and 11pm last night to contact detectives at Strand Road on 101.”
