15 people have been rescued by emergency services after being swept out to sea in Donegal.

The Irish Coast Guard were involved in the operation in the Magheroarty area on the north-coast on Tuesday evening.

10 people were airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty while swimming close to a pier.

It’s understood they were students and staff from a nearby Irish language college.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the Gael Linn organisation thanked the emergency services and confirmed those involved were making a ‘good recovery’.

The parents of the students involved were contacted immediately.
