Separate bomb alerts in Limavady and Londonderry have been sparked by reports of suspicious objects, according to police.

A security alert in the Moneyrannel Road area of Limavady has since ended, after a number of roads had to be closed on Saturday.

A suspicious object was found, but declared to be “nothing untoward”.

PSNI Inspector McIldowney said: “I want to thank the public for their patience as we conducted our enquiries and worked to make the scene safe.

“I appreciate the disruption that was caused on a busy Saturday afternoon - however, when it comes to keeping people safe, we do not take chances.”

Meanwhile, police also attended an alert in the Clooney Road area of Derry.

Roads remained open during searches and it was later confirmed that nothing untoward had been found there either.
