ROI ‘required to build border posts in no-deal Brexit’

The Republic of Ireland would be required to build border posts in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to a new report.

The study, commissioned by the Department for the Economy, says trade between Northern Ireland and the Republic would be "hugely impacted" - with agriculture the worst affected.

The biggest burden, it says, would be on small businesses with "no experience in customs procedures and operations”.

The report concludes that a "great deal of checks, inspections and declarations would be required" if a no-deal Brexit happens.
