Car drags officer 1/2 km before fatal crash
A man has been killed and a garda injured in a crash in Co Monaghan.
The collision happened in Castleblaney after the officer attempted to stop a silver Audi A6 near the town’s Garda station at around 11.30 pm on Tuesday night.
The fleeing car dragged the officer half a kilometer along the road.
The Audi then crashed into another car in the town's Main Street.
The driver of the second car was killed in the collision.
The victim has been named by Gardai as 47-year-old Stephen Marron.
The officer, in his late 20s, suffered head, facial and leg injuries.
He was treated at a hospital in Drogheda.
The driver of the Audi was arrested at the scene and taken to a Garda station in Carrickmacross for questioning.
