A World War One memorial outside Larne, which was vandalised in a weekend attack, is to be replaced in time for Remembrance Sunday.

The Ghost Tommy - an aluminium silhouette - had been erected in Cairncastle as part of a UK-wide Armistice project.

Workers from Mid and East Antrim Council removed the damaged sculpture on Monday morning, and they plan to reinstall it within the next fortnight.

East Antrim DUP MLA Gordon Lyon condemned the incident and added: “The Cairncastle community will reject this intolerance.”
