Investigations into the cause of the Primark fire will now get underway, the Fire Service says.

The historic building at Castle Street in Belfast was destroyed after the flames took hold on Tuesday morning.

An exclusion zone around the scene remains in place, with 14 businesses within the cordoned area, but the operation has been scaled back.

One fire appliance will remain at the scene overnight on Thursday.

“NIFRS Fire Investigation Officers will now begin conducting their investigation to determine the cause of the fire," a spokesperson said.

“We commend fire crews for their tremendous efforts during this challenging incident, the valuable assistance provided by our partner agencies and the support from the public during this time.”
