Belfast protest against Donald Trump visit to UK

People in Belfast have protested against US President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived in the UK on Thursday and were guests at a black-tie dinner hosted by Prime Minister Theresa May on Thursday night.

The American leader met the Prime Minister at Chequers on Friday to discuss a range of foreign policy issues, despite earlier appearing to criticise her leadership in the Brexit negotiations.

Later Mr and Mrs Trump will meet the Queen at Windsor Castle before heading to Scotland where Mr Trump is expected to spend the weekend at his golf resort in South Ayrshire.

However despite the elaborate welcome organised by the British leader and monarch, thousands of people have been taking to the streets to condemn his arrival.

The demonstration at Belfast City Hall was one of a number of Anti-Trump rallies taking place around the United Kingdom. Huge crowds took part in a march from London’s West End to Parliament Square where earlier a Trump ‘baby blimp’ was raised up in the air.
