Fermanagh are still celebrating sealing their place in the Ulster Senior Football Championship final, after waiting a decade for their big moment.

A late goal from captain Eoin Donnelly saw them stun Monaghan at the weekend, taking the 1-08 to 0-10 victory at Healy Park in Omagh.

“They just hit us with a sucker punch at the end and look, it’s desperately hard to take, but that’s football,” Monaghan boss Malachy O’Rourke said.

But that goal effectively guaranteed Fermanagh’s place in the final at Clones at the end of June.

“Just over the moon, delighted to get through,” manager Rory Gallagher said.

“We worked really, really hard at it and I just thought our overall effort and the way we went about our business was incredible.

“You’ve got to maximise what you have and those boys left every ounce on the pitch.”

Fermanagh remains the only county never to lift the coveted trophy, but in this the 130th year of the Ulster Championships, they are starting to believe this could be their time to shine.

And with the hopes of the county on their shoulders, thousands of fans will make the trip to Clones to see them take on either Down or Donegal in the showpiece final.
