A number of prisoners - including two convicted murderers - are on the run after going missing from Maghaberry Prison.

In a report from the News Letter on Friday, it was revealed that the four convicts have been declared "unlawfully at large" over the course of January.

Samuel McKinley, who is 56-years-old and formerly from Southampton, is serving a life sentence for murder.

He previously escaped prison when he didn't return from a pre-release work scheme in 2014.

Also on the run is 53-year-old convicted murderer Thomas Lawrence McCabe, who is originally from Northern Ireland but later moved to England.

The pair have both been unlawfully at large since 19 January.

The PSNI has confirmed that an "active wanted person investigation is under way" but did not specify the names of those they were searching for.

Another two prisoners are also being sought by authorities after failing to return to Maghaberry prison since the beginning of 2018.

41-year-old Sean Tate - who was convicted of five charges, including possession of an offensive weapon in a public place - was declared unlawfully at large on 27 January.

While 31-year-old Wesley Brennan - who was convicted of 20 charges, including 11 counts of theft - has been unlawfully at large since 12 January.

PSNI ask that should anyone see anyone matching any of the descriptions, call your nearest police station or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
