Police Ombudsman notified about fatal crash near Toomebridge
The Police Ombudsman are carrying out preliminary enquiries into a fatal crash near Toomebridge, Co Antrim in which a young woman was killed and a young man seriously injured.
Shannon McQuillan, 19, from the Dunloy area, was killed when she and a 21-year-old man were hit by a van on the Moneynick Road in the early hours of Saturday.
The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A spokesman for the Police Ombudsman has confirmed they have been notified by police about the incident as the pair had been in contact with police some time before the collision.
A PSNI spokeswoman said: “PSNI has notified the Police Ombudsman, as is normal, established protocol. While PONI considers the information provided, it would be inappropriate to comment.
“Our thoughts at this time are with McQuillan family and all of those affected by this tragic incident.”
