Man questioned over ‘threatening’ calls to east Belfast primary school

A man aged in his 30s has been arrested after threats were made to a primary school in East Belfast.

Police informed Elmgrove Primary School in the east of the city on Thursday afternoon of a number of apparent threats, its Principal Jayne Jeffers said.

Parents were immediately contacted to collect their children and the school will remain closed on Friday.

Police say an ‘extensive investigation’ is ongoing into a report of '‘malicious telecommunications’ which was of a ‘threatening nature’.

The school was also forced to close in January 2015 after a malicious threat was received by email.

In a statement on the school's Facebook page, Ms Jeffers said the safety of pupils had not been compromised.
