NI remembers Princess Diana 20 years on
People in Northern Ireland are remembering Princess Diana who died 20 years ago.
The news of her death was announced in the early hours of 31 August 1997 and shocked millions around the world.
During her life, Diana visited NI on numerous occasions, including as president of Barnardos when she spent time at a family centre on Windsor Avenue in Belfast in 1991.
Lynda Wilson, Director of Barnardos NI, said Diana was “a natural with children”.
She said: “She played in the sand tray, she splashed the water, she lifted babies, she talked to young mums and joked with young people.
“But she was also exceptionally professional.”
