A woman murdered in Co Fermanagh is understood to have been stabbed to death by her former partner before he killed himself.

Fifty-one-year-old Concepta Leonard was found dead at a house in Abbey Road in the Lisnaskea area on Monday afternoon.

It is understood a man in his 30s who was also stabbed in the stomach was Ms Leonard’s son who is in a stable condition in hospital.

A 55-year-old man who also died is understood to be her ex-partner Peadar Phair.

Police are treating Ms Leonard’s death as murder and the attack on her son as attempted murder and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the killing.

Former SDLP MLA for the area Richie McPhillips told UTV: “It’s tragic circumstances for all concerned, it’s something that you don’t hear normally visiting communities like we have here in south Fermanagh.

“She and her father were well known in terms of traditional Irish music, her father is Dinny [Leonard], a very well-known gentleman, who's given a lot of years to the promotion and tuition of traditional Irish music.

“It’s a very serious situation for any family to have to face, the loss of a daughter in such circumstances.”
