McIlroy wedding tees off in Co Mayo
Golf star Rory McIlroy is getting married to fiancée Erica Stoll at Ashford Castle in Co Mayo.
The lavish ceremony is billed as the wedding of the year, with the guest list supposed to include everyone from Stevie Wonder to 1D’s Niall Horan.
The exclusive estate, in the village of Cong, is no stranger to stars from as far back as the 1950s when it was the setting for screen classic The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
The castle has been on lockdown since Thursday, with staff and guests asked to wear wristbands for security checks.
The Co Down golfer, ranked number two in the world, got engaged in December 2015.
He and his soon-to-be wife first met when the American was working for the PGA and he was on tour.
She was credited with getting McIlroy to the first tee on time for his singles match in the 2012 Ryder Cup “Miracle in Medinah” after he missed his alarm.
Following the ceremony, McIlroy has suggested the happy couple will be honeymooning “in the middle of nowhere”.
