Funeral of Conan Anderson takes place in Belfast

The funeral of community worker Conan Anderson, who died after he suffered a serious head injury on a night out, has taken place in Belfast.

Requiem Mass took place at St Matthew’s Church on Tuesday morning.

Afterwards the procession stopped at Doyle Football Club in Short Strand where the 22-year-old worked as a youth coach.

Members of the local community, including some of the youngsters from the club, held a minute’s silence as Mr Anderson’s family surrounded his coffin.

Mr Anderson passed away in hospital on Saturday 18 February from a head injury sustained in an incident at Arthur Lane in the early hours of Monday 6 February.

Twenty-seven-year-old Lawrence Dowie, whose address cannot be published for legal reasons, has appeared in court charged with Mr Anderson’s manslaughter. He is currently out on bail.
