Belfast singer David Jackson through to next round on The Voice
Belfast singer David Jackson was victorious in the latest round of The Voice on Saturday which saw him go head-to-head against another member of team JHud.
The 29-year-old was up against Israel Allen in a sing-off to secure his place in the next round.
Once again he wowed the judges with his rendition of "It's Your World", a Jennifer Hudson song, leaving the coach with a difficult decision to make.
Tom Jones commented: “It’s a hard choice because you both got into it, you both sang it like you meant it. But I think David had more edge.”
“They brought so much joy to everyone, it was incredible to see,” Gavin Rossdale said about the pair.
But in the end, Jennifer chose David.
She said: “This is so hard for me. I’m gonna go with David. I picked you because you have a voice, use that voice.”
David's parents were in Saturday night's audience and were overjoyed to see him win.
Now he's heading back to London for rehearsals for the live show at the weekend.
Speaking at the airport before he left, David said: “Saturday was incredible. It was bitter sweet because Israel who I was up against has become like a properly good friend, he’s going to come over to Ireland soon.
“I hated seeing him leave but it was amazing to see Jennifer picking me to be in the show. I’m still a little bit stunned by it.
“The next few days I’ll be in London doing a lot of rehearsing and getting ready for the live show this weekend which is going to rely on public vote.”
He said he prefers performing live as he has found it difficult keeping quiet about the prerecorded performances.
“This is just all in the moment, either I’m going to nail it or I won’t and either way it will be an incredible experience,” he added.
Just a few weeks ago, David gave up his day job in the Apple store in Belfast in order to focus on his music career.
He hopes The Voice will prove to be a life-changing experience for him.
He said: “This is the start to my music career, I feel like I’ve been working so hard at it for years with Runaway Go and this is the first time I’ve felt its day one for David Jackson, regardless of what happens this weekend, I’m still going to pursue music as much as possible.”
