Film featuring voice of Donegal boy wins Bafta award
An animated movie which features the voice of a Donegal schoolboy has won a Bafta award.
Kubo and the Two Strings picked up the gong for Best Animated Film at the 70th Annual Bafta awards on Sunday night.
Art Parkinson, a 15-year-old pupil at Coláiste Chineál Eoghain in Buncrana, voices the lead role.
He was pictured at the glittering ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Director Travis Knight was delighted his directorial debut has been recognised.
"It's remarkable, our shop, we are a little independent animation house based in the Pacific North West of America, and we worked on this film for over five years in the armpit of America so to get this film to come out and to get this reaction - it really is extraordinary,” he said after picking up the award.
"For us to even be considered as some of the top-flight story-tellers in film, it's an amazing honour, but then to walk home with this [trophy], it’s pretty surreal."
The film is also nominated for two Oscars - including Best Animated Movie. The Academy Awards take place at the end of the month.
