Derry City secured European football next season with a 2-1 win over Bohemians at the Brandywell on Friday night.

However, the Candystripes had to come from a goal down as the visitors hit the front on 18 minutes through Kurtis Byrne.

The response was impressive as Derry began to stamp their authority on the game with Aaron McEneff smashing a shot off the post before Rory Patterson forced a superb save out of the Bohs keeper.

The woodwork denied Derry for a second time with Patterson out of luck, but the pressure eventually told on 50 minutes when referee Derek Tomney pointed to the spot after Dean Jarvis went down in the box after a challenge from Derek Pender and McEneff fired home to level matters.

The decisive goal then arrived on 64 minutes with Patterson grabbing his ninth goal of the season and that was enough to win the match and secure that all important Euro place for Kenny Shiels side.
