Lisburn city centre bomb ‘completely reckless’

The viable bomb found in the centre of Lisburn on a busy Saturday afternoon could have killed or injured anyone in the vicinity had it gone off, police have said.

A security alert got underway after the discovery of a suspicious object in the Market Place area at about 2pm on Saturday.

The area was cordoned off and local businesses were evacuated.

Following examination by Army bomb experts, the device was found to be viable.

It was made safe and removed for further examination.

PSNI Superintendent Brian Kee said the “completely reckless” incident had both endangered the public and caused massive disruption.
