La La Land wins best film award at Baftas

Upbeat musical La La Land has triumphed over gritty dramas at the 70th EE British Academy Film Awards.

The film picked up five of the 11 prizes for which it was nominated - including best film, top director for Damien Chazelle and leading actress for Emma Stone.

Emma Stone wins leading actress Bafta for La La Land

Emma Stone has won the Bafta for leading actress for her role in La La Land.

After thanking the film's director, Damien Chazelle, and her leading man, Ryan Gosling, an emotional Stone said: "I don't know if you realise this, this country and the US, and the world seems to be going through a bit of a time, just a bit and in a time that is so divisive I think it's really special we were all able to come together tonight, thanks to Bafta, and to celebrate the positive."
