Brexit Bill backed by overwhelming majority of MPs

The Government's Brexit Bill has been given the go ahead by parliament after two days of intense debate, by a majority of 384.

The passing of the bill gives Prime Minister Theresa May permission to trigger Article 50 and start formal Brexit talks.

Historic vote brings Brexit one step closer

MPs have historically voted by an overwhelming majority to give the Prime Minister permission to start the process of leaving the EU.

It will be a victory for Theresa May but a predicament for Labour's Jeremy Corbyn who ordered his party to vote with the government but a fifth of them defied him.

The next step is a government Brexit plan, a white paper, due to be published on Wednesday outlining details on leaving the single market and implementing a new trade agreement.
