Widespread protests over Donald Trump's travel ban

Downing Street has rejected calls to axe the state visit planned for Donald Trump following widespread outrage over his travel ban on people from certain countries.

More than one million people have signed a petition stating Mr Trump should not be given a state visit.

The immigration curbs have sparked chaos across the US as travellers were detained at airports and thousands of protesters gathered to campaign against the policy.

Boris Johnson has claimed President Trump's immigration policy is "divisive... discriminatory and wrong", but dismissed claims the US is "hostile" towards foreigners.

UK should ban Trump so he can 'taste his own medicine'

The Gold Star father who famously denounced Donald Trump during his presidential campaign has called for Britain to ban the president from visiting the UK.

Khizr Khan told ITV's Good Morning Britain he was appealing for Britons to stand up against Trump's "internationally illegal" travel ban on refugees.

Mr Khan, who had offered Trump a copy of his US Constitution during last summer's race for the White House, said the Republican's ban had alienated Muslim-Americans along with Muslims around the world.

He said the policy was "only to appease (the) small number (from his) racist base that has voted for him".
