Paul Nuttall named new Ukip leader

Paul Nuttall has been announced as the new leader of Ukip.

The former deputy leader won 62.6% of the vote, beating Suzanne Evans and John Rees-Evans.

The leadership contest had been triggered when Diane James gave up the leadership last month, just 18 days after being elected to replace Nigel Farage.

Nuttall: Let's get out there and let's get cracking!

New Ukip leader Paul Nuttall said his election is the start of a new era for the party.

In his acceptance speech, the former deputy leader told supporters: "This is day zero, it's a new beginning.

"I have been there every step of the way. I have not just talked the talk, I've walked the walk.

"I will finish by saying; Ukip's future is bright, but for it to be so, Ukip must unite.

"And today's result has ensured that it will. There's a lot to do ladies and gentlemen, my friends, my colleagues, my brothers and sisters in Ukip.

"Let's get out there and let's get cracking!"
