Cuba in national mourning for former leader Fidel Castro

Cuba is observing nine days of national mourning for former President Fidel Castro, who has died at the age of 90.

The socialist revolutionary's death was announced by his brother, Raul Castro, the incumbent Cuban president, on state television late on Friday.

In his address the elderly leader said Mr Castro, who ruled Cuba since 1959 and survived countless assassination attempts, died at 10.29pm on Friday.

Prince Harry observes minute's silence for Castro

Prince Harry observed a minute's silence for former Cuban leader Fidel Castro who has died aged 90.

The prince joined dignitaries from St Vincent and the Grenadine at a reception hosted by the Caribbean country's governor general Sir Frederick Ballantyne who asked his guests to mark the death of the international figure.

Among the guests was Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, leader of the country's ruling Unity Labour Party, who described Castro as a good friend of his country.

Harry is visiting the country as part of a 15-day tour of the Caribbean.
