'Sexual predator' Trump must 'roll back tide of hate'

Donald Trump is a "sexual predator" whose election has "emboldened the forces of hate and bigotry" in the US, a senior senator has said.

In a blunt statement on the election result, outgoing Senate minority leader Harry Reid called Mr Trump "a sexual predator who lost the popular vote and fueled his campaign with bigotry and hate", and said that the fears of the country's minorities over Mr Trump's election should not be forgotten.

"Every news piece that breathlessly obsesses over inauguration preparations compounds their fear by normalizing a man who has threatened to tear families apart, who has bragged about sexually assaulting women and who has directed crowds of thousands to intimidate reporters and assault African Americans," he said.

Mr Reid, a Democrat who was an outspoken critic of Trump throughout his election campaign, said it was up to the country's 45th president to "roll back tide of hate he unleashed".
