Live updates: Trump meets Obama at the White House

US President elect Donald Trump has met with President Barack Obama at the White House following yesterday's election victory.

Mr Trump said he had discussed "a lot of situations, including some difficulties" with the serving President - and said he looked forward to more meetings together.

Obama: We are all now rooting for Trump's success

President Obama has said that everyone is "rooting" for Donald Trump's success in his presidency and in "uniting and leading the country".

He has invited Donald Trump to the White House on Thursday so that they can discuss the transition of power that will happen between now and January.

"It is no secret that the president-elect and I have some pretty significant differences," he said, speaking to reporters.

But, he also said that he and President Bush had significant differences, yet Bush's team were "professional and gracious" during the transition

"I have instructed my team to follow the example that President Bush's team set eight years ago and work as hard as we can to make sure that this is a successful transition for the president-elect.

"The peaceful transition of power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy, and over the next few months we are going to show that to the world."
