Thousands of Romanians have taken part in a silent march through the streets of Bucharest to mark the one year anniversary of a tragic nightclub fire which led to mass public outrage.

More than 4,000 people marched towards the site of the Colectiv club where 64 people died, and more than 100 were injured, last year after a fire broke out when fireworks used during a concert ignited non-fireproofed insulation foam.

The fire triggered a stampede towards a single-door exit, trapping some 350 people inside.

Prosecutors' investigations have since shown club owners allowed it to be filled beyond capacity, that there was a lack of emergency exits, and the club was not equipped to handle fireworks.
