Eastern Aleppo may be 'totally destroyed in two months'

Eastern Aleppo may be "totally destroyed" in just two months if fighting continues in the Syrian city.

Staffan de Mistura, the UN's Syria Envoy, warned unless there is a "major game changer" the destruction in rebel-held eastern Aleppo will continue.

Speaking in Geneva, Mr de Mistura said: "The writing on the wall in front of us is: if this continues to be the pattern at this rate - unless there is any major game changer that may change the equation - this cruel, constant use of military activities, bombing, fighting, and destruction in eastern Aleppo will continue".

Mr de Mistura said there was "nothing" that indicated the fighting would not continue.

He added: "The bottom line is: in maximum, two months, two-and-a-half months, the city of eastern Aleppo, at this rate, may be totally destroyed".
