Theresa May has begun appointing members of her first Cabinet as prime minister.

Here are the key appointments so far:

  • Philip Hammond has been appointed Chancellor
  • Boris Johnson has been appointed Foreign Secretary
  • Amber Rudd has been appointed Home Secretary
  • David Davis has been made Secretary of State for Brexit
  • Michael Fallon is to stay on as Defence Secretary

No 10: Cabinet appointments show PM committed to Brexit

The appointments of Boris Johnson, David Davis and Liam Fox in senior government roles show that Prime Minister Theresa May is committed to Brexit, Downing Street said.

Johnson has been appointed the new Foreign Secretary, along with Davis who was given the role of Brexit minister and Fox, who will lead a new department of International trade in the new cabinet. All three were prominent campaigners for Britain to leave the European Union.

No 10 also said that the appointments highlight how the new PM wants to unite the Conservative Party.
