Eagle: Corbyn must step down for sake of country

Angela Eagle refused to comment on reports linking Owen Smith with a leadership challenge as she reiterated her call for Jeremy Corbyn to quit as Labour leader.

Ms Eagle has also been touted as candidate to replace Jeremy Corbyn, who is under immense pressure to step down following mass resignations from the Labour front bench.

"It's all about Jeremy considering his position and I don't think speculation about anything else is useful," she told ITV News.

She called on Jeremy Corbyn to do the "right thing for the party and the country" and resign.

"Let's face it the country is in a crisis and we need strong opposition.
