David Cameron has spoken to the Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydłoto to reassure her following reports of hate crimes against Polish immigrants in Britain.

Speaking to parliament on Monday, Mr Cameron said:

I spoke to the Polish prime minister this afternoon to say how concerned I was about the attacks that have taken place and to reassure her that we are doing everything we could to protect Polish citizens in our country.

Mr Cameron's comment on Monday came as the Police Council released updated figures showing an increase in reports of online hate crimes.

The Council said there was a 54% increase in online reports - from Thursday to Sunday last week - compared to the corresponding days last month.
