Two members of Jeremy Corbyn's cabinet have made public declarations of loyalty and urged their colleagues from splitting the party in an attempt to depose the leadership.

Emily Thornberry said "now is not the time for us to go for a leadership challenge" as she urged colleagues to take a "responsible" view.

"Jeremy was only elected less than a year ago on the back of 60% of the membership voting in his favour," she told BBC1's Sunday Politics.

The country is calling out for the Labour Party to step up and to show an alternative.

We must do that in a unified way.

Meanwhile Diane Abbott said that cabinet members must call a "a proper leadership election" if they are not happy.

"There is no evidence that if Jeremy ran again as leader he wouldn't win," she added "The reason I have confidence in Jeremy is that the party has confidence in Jeremy."
