Plane maker apologises for flying Leave banner over Jo Cox vigil

A plane carrying a banner with the words 'Take Control #VoteLeave' flies above the Jo Cox vigil

A plane maker campaigning for Britain to leave the EU has apologised for flying a "Vote Leave" banner over the birthday memorial vigil for killed MP Jo Cox, a Remain campaigner.

The gesture, which was organised by aeroplane maker Britten-Norman and not affiliated with the official Vote Leave camp, was branded an "obscene insult" to the killed MP's memory by Unite's Steve Turner.

Britten-Norman claimed it was a "mistake" that the banner had coincided with the hour-long vigil.
