Fact check: 'Only Antarctica has a slower growth rate than the EU'

Antarctica is the only continent with a lower growth rate than the European Union, according to Labour MP and Leave campaigner Gisela Stuart.

That is true for the years between 2010 and 2014, according to fact-checking organisation Full Fact, analysing the live BBC referendum debate.

Between 2010 and 2014, the EU grew more slowly than any geographical continent bar Antarctica, and also more slowly than the continent of Europe as a whole.

But from 2014 until now, South America and Europe as a whole have grown more slowly than the EU.

It has also been declining as a share of the world economy for several decades, though this mainly reflects fast growth in other regions.
