French police have arrested at least 36 people following clashes with football fans in Lille.
On several occasions police charged crowds of chanting supporters, and red flares were let off amid a tense stand-off with officers.
The clashes followed the conclusion of Russia's match against Slovakia and come ahead of the England and Wales match to be played in nearby Lens later on Thursday.

The 22-year-old was arrested in Carcasonne and is suspected of planning attacks on Russian and American tourists, a legal source told AFP.

Police have called violence at the European Championships in Lille "appalling" and "absolutely vile".
