Corbyn joins unions to urge Labour voters to back remain

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has pleaded for his party's supporters and trade unionists to vote Remain in the EU referendum in order to safeguard and extend the rights of ordinary workers.

In a show of unity by the Labour movement, Mr Corbyn joined members of his shadow cabinet and trade union leaders in an attempt to win over the party's wavering voters.

Mr Corbyn, whose efforts so far in the campaign have been criticised as lukewarm, said Labour would be making "the strongest case we can" for a Remain win on June 23.

Jeremy Corbyn has refuted the Vote Leave campaign's central claim that Britain sends the EU £350 million every week.

The Labour leader cited the UK Statistics Authority's statement that the claim was "misleading".

"When they say misleading, they mean downright dishonest," Mr Corbyn said. "It's an outright lie and they know it."

Mr Corbyn pointed out that the Leave campaign was forced to repaint the bus.
