May condemns 'deeply disturbing' Marseille violence

The Home Secretary has condemned the "deeply disturbing violence" in Marseille ahead of and during England's Euro 2016 opener against Russia.

Theresa May said she was "in no doubt" that organised groups of Russian fans were largely to blame for instigating the violence.

But she added: "Some among the England contingent in Marseille behaved inexcusably. Anyone who has traveled to France in order to cause trouble has let down their nation, and does a disservice to all genuine England fans."

Mrs May said more British police spotter would be in Lens for England's next game against Wales, adding that she has "every confidence" fans will behave better, particularly with the threat of being thrown out of the tournament hanging over England.
