Fact check: 'NHS boss wants Britain to remain in EU'

Credit: ITV

Head of the NHS Simon Stevens, along with the Royal College of Midwives, believes Britain would be best remaining in the EU, Conservative politician Amber Rudd said.

That claim is correct, according to fact-checking organisation Full Fact, working alongside ITV News.

I became a nurse in 1975, the year Britain last held a vote on staying in Europe, and a year before I qualified as a midwife.

– Cathy Warwick, CEO The Royal College of Midwives

If Mark Carney is right then that is a severe concern for the National Health Service.

Because it would be very dangerous if at precisely the moment the NHS is going to need extra funding actually the economy goes into a tailspin and that funding is not there.

– Simon Stevens, NHS Chief Executive
