Leave and Remain go head to head in EU referendum debate

Members of the 'Remain' and 'Leave' camps have clashed in the ITV Referendum Debate, with accusations of lying and scaremongering thrown back and forth ahead of the vote in two weeks time.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, Angela Eagle and Amber Rudd appeared on behalf of Vote Remain. Former London Mayor Boris Johnson, Andrea Leadsom and Gisela Stuart represented Vote Leave.

Fact check: 'EU is lowest zone of growth worldwide'

The EU is the zone of lowest economic growth in the world, according to former London Mayor Boris Johnson.

This was correct in the recent past, but not right now, according to the International Monetary Fund - fact-checking organisation Full Fact, working with ITV News, say.

The European Union grew more slowly than any geographical continent between 2010 and 2014 (ignoring Antarctica), and also more slowly than the continent of Europe as a whole.

But from 2014, South America began heading into recession. Europe as a whole also grew more slowly than the EU.

Since it has many rich countries, the EU tends to have slower growth than developing regions.
