Obama begins historic Havana trip in bid to boost US-Cuba ties

President Barack Obama has begun a historic three day trip to the Cuban capital Havana in what marks a historic visit that would have been all but unimaginable just a few years ago.

Obama is the first sitting American president to visit Cuba since Calvin Coolidge arrived on a battleship in 1928.

Obama: Visit is 'historic opportunity' to engage with Cubans

President Obama has described being in Cuba as "wonderful" after becoming the first US President to visit the country in 88 years.

Speaking shortly he said his visit would be a "historic opportunity to engage with the Cuban people".
