At least 18 people have been killed in a shooting at a hotel popular with Westerners in the Ivory Coast.
Four Europeans were reportedly amongst the dead in the attack on the L'Etoile du Sud hotel in the beach resort of Grand-Bassam on Sunday.
The Foreign Office said they were "urgently" trying to establish whether any Brits were involved.
A witness to the deadly Ivory Coast attacks has said that they saw four men roaming the beach and firing shots.
"We were on the beach, we heard the gunshots and we saw people fleeing -- we understood this was an attack," witness Braman Kinda told AFP.
Kinda said four attackers had "roamed the beach firing shots".
A witness also told the news agency they heard one of the killers shouting "Allahu akbar", Arabic for "God is greatest".
If confirmed, it would suggest that Islamist militants may have been behind the attacks.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
