Deadly shooting at Ivory Coast hotel claimed by Al-Qaida

At least 18 people have been killed in a shooting at a hotel popular with Westerners in the Ivory Coast.

Four Europeans were reportedly amongst the dead in the attack on the L'Etoile du Sud hotel in the beach resort of Grand-Bassam on Sunday.

The Foreign Office said they were "urgently" trying to establish whether any Brits were involved.

Hollande vows to increase anti-terror measures after attack

The French President Francois Hollande has denounced a "cowardly" attack on an Ivory Coast resort that left at last 16 people dead.

At least one French citizen is among the dead after gunmen stormed beaches in the resort of Grand Bassam.

Mr Hollande said that France would track down those responsible and increase anti-terror measures in the country in a message of defiance.

France will bring its logistical support and intelligence to Ivory Coast to find the attackers.

It will pursue and intensify its cooperation with its partners in the fight against terrorism.
